Today on Midlantic Racing Today: The Horseracing Integrity and Safety Act (HISA) was found earlier this month by the US Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals to be unconstitutional.
But the 6th Circuit found the opposite.
That likely sets up a fight at the Supreme Court over the horse racing law.
Now what? What is the court likely to do? Why do some horsemen want to get rid of it? And what comes next if it is overturned?
We talk with National HBPA chief Eric Hamelback, whose group has spearheaded the fight against HISA, about these and other questions.

It's a safe bet that there aren't too many lawyers on the backstretch at Delaware Park. But it's a sure thing that there's at least one.
Ted Maher, who trains a two-horse stable at Delaware, pays his bills as an attorney. But his passion for racing keeps drawing him back. He appears on this episode of Midlantic Racing Today.
Maher has served as a groom for Hall of Famer Bill Mott, galloped horses in Maryland, and ridden races as an amateur all over the US and in Western Europe. As a trainer his very first starter, back in 2005, won and paid her few backers $215.80 for a two-dollar win wager.
It's a tale full of twists and turns.

Sylvia Bishop was the first Black woman to be licensed as a Thoroughbred trainer in the United States, plying her trade at Charles Town for years and memorialized with a stakes race that bears her name.
These days, her grandson, Michael Jones, Jr. follows in her footsteps, training at CT. He appears on this episode of Midlantic Racing Today.
Jones struck out on his own as a trainer in 2014, winning two races that year and gradually building his barn into where it is today: currently tied for fifth in the standings with 24 wins at CT (27 wins overall) and having won 50 or more races for three consecutive years.
Through it all, he says his grandmother remains his greatest influence.

We catch up with longtime racing insider Alan Foreman in the newest episode of Midlantic Racing Today, powered by The Racing Biz.
In a career that's spanned nearly 50 years, Foreman defended Maryland's stewards in the most famous non-disqualification case of all, navigated murky waters with a successful jockey who wasn't old enough to hold a license, helped push Maryland to rebuild Pimlico, and positioned the Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association on the side of HISA.
Yet after all that, he says, "Racing has not figured out what its product is."
Why? And what does he see in the future?
It's a wide-ranging conversation with the insider's insider.
